Mental Health and well-being Support
At Castleway, we care about your children beyond their academic abilities within the classroom and value each child as an individual whilst appreciating the ups and downs of life they each face. The emotional health and well-being of your child is of up-most importance to us, as we want all children that come to our school to be happy and content and to achieve their full potential in life.
As part of our curriculum, we will deliver lessons focusing on mental health and wellbeing as well as inviting outside agencies into school like the NSPCC and Anti-bullying companies. In addition, teachers plan assemblies, health weeks and will have Circle Time to help support the children.
We believe ‘healthy bodies make healthy minds’ and work with highly trained coaches to deliver sports and clubs at Castleway. In addition, each year we work with The Bikeability Team to promote the benefits of cycling as a form of exercise and the importance of keeping safe on the roads.
We also offer programs that focus on emotional and behavioural support and learning.
Each program is led and facilitated by a trained member of staff or an outside agency and is carried out within an informal setting, either within a small group or one-to-one, depending on the program. They all allow the children the space to share as much or as little of their worries, troubles and struggles as they choose, either verbally or creatively and indirectly through various arts and crafts, role play and much more. A number of children have now gone through each of the programs and all, without exception, have found this support to have been incredibly beneficial and a positive experience all round.
If you feel that your child may benefit from any of these programs or you would like to hear more about them, please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak the SENCo Clare Harrison or Mrs Pughe, the Acting Assistant Head Teacher. Alternatively, you could speak to your child’s class teacher.
We work hard to help the children to understand that there are people out there that can help them. One of the paths they could take for help would be to contact Childline. Here’s a video to show what happens if you do call them:

Our SENCo, Clare Harrison will also be arranging coffee mornings. This will be a time for parents to share any concerns or worries they may have. Parents will be informed by letter about these events.
