Music is essentially a practical subject. The curriculum encourages pupils to sing, compose and use instruments in order to develop their creative skills. Through active listening, pupils’ awareness and understanding of different periods, styles and genres are developed. We follow the music scheme Charanga which incorporates all of these elements.

At Castleway Primary School children have the opportunity to play a variety of instruments, including the ukulele, recorder, glockenspiel and a variety of non-tuned percussion. We invite a variety of professional musicians into school to perform and teach children about music in a fun way. Every week we have a singing assembly where we sing for pleasure and learn new songs to perform at our services that we hold at St. Chad’s four times a year.

At Castleway Primary School we aim for children to enjoy music and we strive to ensure that children are inspired by talented musicians and develop a love of music.
